A music camp for players of acoustic folk instruments, featuring focused classes for each instrument group and ensemble activities and sessions for fun and inclusive community music making. After the faculty concert on Friday night there will be a harpist-friendly session led by me, open to all instruments. The dedicated harp workshops are for intermediate-level players and take place Saturday morning/early afternoon, including:
Syncopated Slig Jigs: Explore modern offbeat rhythms in the left hand for 9/8 time while learning an Irish slip jig or two!
Celtic Harp Standards: A deep dive into traditional and modern tunes that have become standards in the Celtic harp repertoire - tunes that all harpers will want to have in their back pocket. Expect lots of playing together in this class!
Choosing Chords by Ear in Sessions: For harpers, sessions can be difficult if one doesn’t know the tune already. In this class we’ll learn shortcuts to figuring out the key of tunes by ear, and what common chord progressions to try with session tunes in real time.
There are both day pass and overnight options to register, full meals included. For a full description of Camp activities, lodging details and registration, please visit CommunityMusicSchool.org
